Massachusetts Chief Justice Margaret Marshall wrote in the 4-3 decision, “We declare that barring an individual from the protections, benefits and obligations of civil marriage solely because that person would marry a person of the same sex violates the Massachusetts constitution.” The court also stated that the denial of civil marital status “works a deep and scarring hardship on a very real segment of the community for no rational reason.”

Is God’s Word and 6,000 years of history not rational reason enough?

History shows us that every civilization that strays from the union of a man and a woman in marriage will eventually collapse. That is a “deep…hardship” on the entire nation and not just a “segment of the community.”

Genesis 2: 18 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

God designed marriage between a man and a woman to be the first system of interdependent human relationships.

1 Corinthians 11:11 In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12 For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.

The special and sacred bond shared between husband and wife provides for strong families which, in turn, provide for stable, healthy social structures. Only in the unique union of a man and a woman can the foundation for a healthy society be built.
