I read an interesting article which asked this question. We know that there are 4 blood types: A, B, AB, and O. We also know that “life” is in the blood. Leviticus 17:11 states, “For the life of a creature is in the blood.” God’s Word also tells us, “[W]ithout the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Hebrews 9:22. Therefore, blood is the essence of life, both physical and spiritual.

Some who have studied the Shroud of Turin, which some believe to be the actual burial cloth of Christ, say that the blood stains are type AB, the rarest blood type.

So the question remains, “What was Jesus’ blood type?” Jesus had blood type “P.” No that is not a typo. Jesus’ blood was “P.” “P” stands for precious, as 1 Peter 1:18-21. For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.”

Jesus’ blood type, physically speaking, does not matter. However, spiritually speaking, it means everything. It is by the blood of Jesus that we were purchased for God and that we were brought near to God. It is only by the blood of Jesus that we can be saved.

This Friday is called “Good Friday.” It is and was “good” only because Jesus shed His blood on the cross to save us from our sins. Please know that Jesus loves you and died for you. He knows your name. He knows your past. And, He loves you anyway. He loved you so much that He was willing to die on the cross 1,975 years ago, shedding His precious blood for you.
