The book of Revelation is a book of joy not fear. We will experience that joy because we are overcomers.

The End of Time Revelation It is a heartbreaking to see what is happening in America – News story after news story of the sin in America. The 7th video exposing Planned Parenthoods criminal activity – not just the immorality of killing babies (approved by the US Supreme Court) but breaking the law of harvesting body parts from aborted babies and now we see the heinous abuse of harvesting the brain of a baby while its heart was still beating – this is not just murder – it is a torturous murder. How can people be so evil? How can we sit back and let it happen. We must continue to fight against the immorality of killing babies in America We are surely coming to the end of time – Jesus will come back soon – I don’t know when He will come – Every generation thinks that it can’t get any worse and it does. Evil always seems to win the day – it is not true but that what it feels like. Our society is not getting more evil than past generations. Genesis 6:5 The LORD saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. Evil will continue – we are in the last days and have been since Jesus ascended to Heaven. 2 Timothy 3:1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God That is what we see – when you don’t love God all this evil continues to increase. People who claim to love God sin in this way and promote evil as well. Josh Dugger continues to give Christ a black eye. When we sin we give Christ a black eye. We hurt our witness and it makes it harder for people to accept the Love of Jesus because we make a mockery of His love and acceptance by the way we treat Him and others. What we have seen through our study of the Bible this year is that God loves sinners and will use sinners to accomplish His purpose and that He sent Jesus so that we could be holy like He is holy. The goal of our study this year has been for us is to see how God’s word is one story, from Genesis to Revelation, God’s story. I hope we have seen that History is His Story. We need to see all of life and eternity through God’s perspective not ours. When we understand and see God’s will it will become clear to us that He loves us and has our best interest at heart. This life will make sense because we understand what God is doing. Remember Joseph wasting away in prison because he was falsely accused? From our perspective we question God’s love and protection. But from God’s perspective He is preparing him to serve in the palace, preparing him to save the children of Israel from famine and extinction. Joseph said, You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. (Genesis 50:20) Remember another Joseph, a righteous carpenter in Nazareth? His betrothed is pregnant and Joseph knows he is not the father. Chaos and scandal – Joseph’s world is turned upside down and he is innocent. From our perspective this is not fair but we know from God’s perspective this baby will save the world. What seemed to be a scandal was God’s planned solution from the beginning of time. This is why we must pray that God’s will be done. It may not make sense and we may not like what is happening but God is working for His purpose to be accomplished. So from the beginning of time to the end of time – God is the same Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. At the end when Jesus comes again, God will create a new heaven and new earth. Revelation 21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. The Bible – the 66 books that make up God’s Holy Word is one story even though it was written over a time period of 1,500 years in 3 languages by 40 human authors. Really God’s word was written by one author – God himself. 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed 2 Peter 1:21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. So it is not a surprise that the Bible has one theme: God loves you. God created you and sent Jesus to forgive you of your sins so you could be with Him for eternity. The Bible is a love story. The groom coming for his bride. God wants to fellowship with you, He desires to be with you. Genesis 3:8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. Revelation 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 1 Corinthians 1:9 God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful. Almighty God wants to be with you but He will not make you be with Him. His desire to be with us is why He created us, it is why He sent Jesus to come and die on the cross, and that is why He is sending Jesus a second time. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage each other with these words. We can be encouraged knowing we will be with the Lord forever. Does that give you great hope and comfort? We won’t have to suffer pain, heartache, and disease anymore. We won’t have to ask: Why is there suffering in the world, Why is there evil in the world? “In the twinkling of an eye” (1 Corinthians 15:52) we will be changed never to hurt again. Revelation 21:4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation is not a book that should scare us it should bring us joy. The Apostle John wrote to encourage the Christians who were suffering persecution. Their suffering would not last forever – Jesus was coming soon. John even prayed, “Come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20). The message of Revelation is one of happiness not fear. Revelation 1:3 Blessed (happy) is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed (happy) are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. Why can we be happy? Revelation 22:4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. Revelation 21:23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The curse on Adam and Eve was increased pain and toil; there will be no more pain in Heaven (Rev 21:4). The ground was cursed but there will be no curse in Heaven (Rev 22:3). Adam and Eve were denied access to the Tree of Life after they sinned but we will be able to eat from the Tree of Life in Heaven. Revelation 22:2 …On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. Jesus said to the church at Ephesus Revelation 2:7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God. When we overcome we will be in the presence of God. Jesus gave similar encouraging words to each of the churches – When we overcome we will receive these blessings also. Revelation 2:11 He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death. Revelation 2:17 To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it. Revelation 2:26 To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations Revelation 3:5 He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels. Revelation 3:12 Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, …and I will also write on him my new name. Revelation 3:21 To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. There is joy because we are overcomers, our future looks great. The book of Revelation is a book of joy not fear. We know the end of the story. It starts well – Adam and Eve in Paradise. It ends well – Jim is in the Holy City seeing the face of God. Revelation 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” 6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. 11 It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. …18 The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. 19 The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. …21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass. 22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. That is what we can look forward to if we overcome. You have to be in Christ to overcome. 1 Corinthians 6:9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. That is what we all were but now we are washed by the blood of Christ. When we were immersed into the watery grave of baptism our sins were washed away and we received the indwelling gift of God the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38; 22:16). Will you turn your eyes to Jesus and find forgiveness today? Christian will you continue to turn your eyes upon Jesus so you can overcome?
