1. Attested by ancient manuscripts

a. Over 24,000 ancient copies of portions of the Bible

b. Over 5,000 ancient Greek manuscripts of the New Testament

c. Most of New Testament manuscripts are within 200-400 years of original composition

d. Plus hundreds of Scripture quotations in the early church fathers

2. Confirmed by archeology

a. Every new discovery supports the Biblical text

b. Recent examples: Tablets referring to Abraham and the Hittite nation; the fallen walls of Jericho; the family tomb of Pontius Pilate

3. Supported by fulfilled prophecy

a. One test of genuine revelation: prophecies come true (Deut. 18:21-22; Isa. 41:21-23)

b. Old Testament prophecies have faithful and accurate fulfillment

1) The fall of Tyre (Ezekiel 26), rise of Cyrus (Isaiah 45)

2) The rise of empires: Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome (Dan. 2:39-40; 7:5-7; 8:20-25)

3) The birth of Jesus in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2)

4) The crucifixion of Jesus (Psalm 22)

4. Affirmed by Apostolic witness

a. The New Testament was written by Jesus’ Apostles and their close associates

b. First-hand eyewitnesses (2 Pet. 1:16-18; 1 John 1:1-3) and careful research (Luke 1:1-4)

c. Willing to die for their testimony (as marturia)

5. Supported by internal unity

a. Forty authors over a 1,500 year period in 3 languages

b. Yet a teaching that is uniform and consistent

c. Though a variety of styles and themes, a unity of theological thought

6. Affirmed by the testimony of Jesus

a. Jesus considered Scripture to be truth that would not fail (John 10:35; 17:17)

b. He referred to the incredible stories of the Old Testament as if true; Adam and Eve (Matt. 19:4-5); Noah and the flood (Luke 17:26-27); fire upon Sodom and Lot’s wife turning into salt (Luke 17:28-32); Jonah in the fish (Matt. 12:39-40)

7. Affirmed by the Bible itself

a. The Bible claims to be inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:20-21)

b. The Bible claims to be trustworthy and infallible in all that it says (Psa. 119:151; Prov. 30:5-6; John 14:26; 15:26-27; 16:13; 17:17; 2 Tim. 3:16-17)
