Acts 1:8

Video – Drenched

Don’t let people think you are taking joy in their pain but give them hope. You have hope in Jesus give others hope in Jesus.

Do you have joy because you are DRENCHED in God’s grace, love, and forgiveness?

We were hopeless and broken before we accepted Jesus.

Jesus came to earth to take away our sin. He came so that the consequences of our sins would not send us to Hell.

Praise God we have found God’s grace, love, and forgiveness.

Do you think anybody else would want what you have?

Peace and Joy in your life.

I will go – I will go and share the good news of Jesus with others.

I will go and share the grace and love of Jesus.

I will go and share the forgiveness of Jesus

I will go and share the peace and joy of Jesus.

I will go!

Are you going?

You go – the question is our you taking the message of Jesus as you go.

Jesus tells us to go

Matthew 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19  THEREFORE GO and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

What excuses do you have not to go? Why are you not sharing the love of Jesus with your family, your neighbors, your co-workers, and the cashier at the store?

Reason (excuse) #1

The most spiritual reason (hear excuse) is that evangelism is not your spiritual gift.

What is your spiritual gift? Serving, Teaching, Encouraging, Generosity, Leadership, Mercy

Romans 12:7, 8 doesn’t list evangelism as a gift.

Just because that is not your “gift” doesn’t mean you don’t have to do it.

Pray for opportunities to share Jesus and trust God to give you the strength and words to talk about Him.

How many of you post on Facebook? Then you have the gift of evangelism – you are already spreading news.

Now spread the best news – the Good News of Jesus – on Facebook and in real life.

Reason (excuse) #2 – “That is why we pay Jim.”

Jim is the evangelist; the bulletin says so.

If you are not going to share the good news of Jesus with people at least invite them to church services.

The book of Acts talks about believers coming together to worship.  But in the 21st century people who are searching for Jesus come to church.  That may be that they can’t find a Christian at work or on the street to ask a question.

Sit down with your Bible and talk to people you love about Jesus.  I will join you but you know enough to get started.

Reason (excuse) #3 “I don’t have time”

You can’t find the time to follow the last command that Jesus gave His disciples.

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

You have time to do what you want to do.

The first thing to do is inject God into your conversations.

Several people do a good job at injecting God in conversations but I asked Terry how he does it.

Terry – Well most commonly, when asked how I’m doing, I respond with “I’m hanging in there with God’s help” or “I couldn’t do this on my own” or “God is good all the time”

When someone says good morning, I’ll respond with, “this is a day the Lord has made, let’s rejoice and be glad in it.”

If someone is having a bad day, I’ll tell them “hang in there, God will not give you more than you can handle” or “I will pray for you.” Sometimes that opens up deeper discussion and questions.

Everyone has time to change the way you greet people. I guarantee you when people start asking questions you will have time to answer them, because it is exciting and you know God is using you to minister to them.

The hard part is getting the conversation going.  Put that in God’s hands too, pray for opportunities.

Reason (excuse) #4 “I don’t want to impose my beliefs on others”

“I’m scared someone will be offended.”

Don’t think you are imposing your beliefs. You love the person you are talking to and you want them to have real joy.  You want them to spend eternity in Heaven.

If you are “imposing,” then you are probably judging them and their sin. Don’t judge, love them.

Would you be imposing your beliefs if you ask your friend to stop doing drugs?

You love your friend and want something better for them.  Just because someone accuses you of imposing your beliefs doesn’t mean you are doing something wrong.

Probably the issue is fear.

Dustin said this week, “The passion of sharing the gospel has to outweigh the fear of sharing the gospel.”

Yes, someone may get mad at you if you lovingly tell them about Jesus.

Someone else will be eternally grateful.

I CANNOT CALL YOU FRIEND! My friend, I stand in judgment now. And I fill that you are to blame somehow. On earth I walked with you day by day. But never did you point the way. You knew the LORD, In His truth and His glory. But never did you share the story! ? My knowledge then was very dim. You could have lead me safely to Him. You taught me many things, This is true. I called you friend, And I trusted you. But I have learned, And now it is too late You could have kept me from this fate, We walked by day, And talked by night, And yet you showed me not the light. You let me live and love, AND DIE, You knew I would never live on high. Yes, I called you friend in life,

I trusted you through JOY and strife. And yet on coming to this end, — I CANNOT CALL YOU MY FRIEND!

We have to love people more than we fear them. Fear God more than you fear man.

What is God’s reaction if you don’t share your faith, if you keep quiet and deny you know Him.

Matthew 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29  Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. 30  And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31  So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. 32  “Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. 33  But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.

Yes, you are denying Jesus if you never open your mouth and tell others what He has done for you.

Fear God’s displeasure more than man’s reaction to you sharing the Gospel.

You will end up in the same place as the person you refused to tell the Good News to.

You can’t get into Heaven if Jesus disowns you for denying Him.

Are you motived now to share your faith?

Reason (excuse) #5 “I don’t know what to say.”

Prepare a one-minute testimony.

Answer these three questions and be prepared to share –

Who were you before Jesus?

What did Jesus do for you?

How have you changed because of Jesus?

That is what the Drenched video did – I have done worse than you but Jesus’ grace, love and forgiveness filled in all the cracks and drenched me; that is why I have joy.

You could use the “Three circles app”

God’s design but we are broken because of sin.  The Gospel, Jesus, is the solution to sin and brokenness.  The Gospel says repent and be baptized then you will be restored, you will be a new creation the way God designed you.

Ten Timely Truths – handout

Let people know that Jesus loves them and thinks they are worthy; let them know that Jesus will help them through this difficult time. Others have hurt you but God’s got your back.

When has God had your back? When has He helped you?  When have you experienced and known His love?

Just tell people what you have learned and what God is doing for you.

It is that simple – Jesus came, Jesus died, Jesus is coming again.

He came because He loved you and knew your name.  He died to bring you forgiveness.  He is coming again because He wants to spend eternity with you.  You are His friend!

The church has the same purpose as Jesus – seek and save the lost. The church is not a building; the church is us.  We are the “called out ones” we have been called out of darkness into the light of Jesus.  Our job is to call others out, invite them to join you in the light of Jesus.

Your family members, your friends, your neighbors are walking in the dark.

Won’t you turn on a flashlight so they can see where they need to go?

If you love others you will share Jesus with them.

Matthew 22:39 Jesus said, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Forget the excuses and let’s just do it.

How – inject God into your conversations

Inject God into your current relationships

Make new friendships for the purpose of injecting God

Jesus became a friend to sinners

God is working in people’s lives – they have questions.

Ask God for opportunities to share Him with others.

Be courageous, take a risk for Jesus.  Take up your cross and live for Him.

Decide to Go – say I Will Go

As you Go preach the Gospel – first with how you live and second with your words.

Several years ago New Orleans municipal pool held a celebration. The party around the pool was held to celebrate the first summer in memory without a drowning at the New Orleans city pool. In honor of the occasion, 200 people gathered, including 100 certified lifeguards.

As the party was breaking up and the four lifeguards on duty began to clear the pool, they found a fully dressed body in the deep end. They tried to revive him but it was too late. He had drowned surrounded by lifeguards celebrating their successful season.

There are drowning people everywhere around us. Let’s get out of are holy huddle and lead people to Jesus.

Do you need Jesus today?

If you want to experience love and forgiveness come as we sing.

Will you turn your life over to Jesus – let Him heal your brokenness.

When you repent of your sins and are baptized your sins are forgiven and you receive the indwelling of God the Holy Spirit.

Will you come today – Jesus loves you and wants you to be drenched in His grace.
